Standard
This site aims to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA - the technical standard referenced by EN 301 549 and, in turn, by the European Accessibility Act (Directive (EU) 2019/882).
To be precise about status: this is a self-assessment, not an independent audit or certification. No certification scheme exists for the EAA, and I make no claim to hold one. As a personal site offering no consumer product or service, robkow.com also falls outside the EAA's scope. I target the standard because it's the right way to build, not because I'm required to.
What's in place
- Semantic HTML with a single, ordered heading hierarchy
- Landmark regions and ARIA labelling on every section
- Full keyboard navigation with visible focus indicators
- Skip-to-content link for screen reader and keyboard users
- Text contrast meeting or exceeding 4.5:1 throughout
- Captions and a written transcript for the introduction video
- Background video is muted, decorative, and hidden from assistive technology
prefers-reduced-motionrespected for animation and cursor effects- Responsive layout that reflows without horizontal scrolling
Known limitations
Being honest about what isn't perfect:
- The introduction video has captions but no audio description; the transcript is provided as an alternative
- Web fonts load from a third-party CDN, which may briefly affect text rendering on slow connections
- The animated browser tab title can be stopped with the Escape key, but this isn't signposted visually
- The site has not been tested with every screen reader and browser combination
Found a barrier?
If anything on this site is difficult or impossible for you to use, please tell me. I'll fix it, and I'd rather know than not.
Useful things to include: the page or section, what you were trying to do, and the browser and assistive technology you're using. I aim to respond within five working days.
